Meetings

As I walked through the quiet meadow,
He sprang up, arrow nocked in bow,
"What are you doing here?" he said with a frown,
I don't answer, my eyes cast down.

"Well you might as well come with me,
You can no longer go back to your world, you see,
The rules of the elves must never be broken,
You are very lucky you have not yet spoken."

He leads me into the forest deep,
"I am amazed you do not weep,
All the others we have found do,
There's no shame if you do too."

I keep my silence still,
I hope they don't decide to kill.
Elves can be tricky, they say,
You can win, if by their rules you play.

If I keep silent long enough,
They may not 'crack' me, I'm to tough.
In my mind he read it true,
"Silence will not save you."

I take one last look at him,
Then my story I begin.
"I came with a message for Liadin the Mage,
It is time, now is the Breaking Age."

His eyes spoke of pure shock,
The surprise of it made him stop his walk.
His eyes went wide, "you're the one!
That makes you a mage, what have I done?!"

"It isn't yet your time to fret,
And you could lead me to Liadin I bet,
I came to your people seeking aide,
To Liadin, or good the future doesn't baide."

"Well, Liadin is the Elvin Mage,
And I know the guards will rage,
But to the Elders, I'll take you to see,
And whatever they decide will be."

He continues into the forest glade,
Assuring me he'll back me for elvin aide,
I looked at this remarkable elf,
Who say, "If they don't agree, I'll take you myself!"

As we arrived at the elvin town,
Another elf stopped us, her face a frown,
"Ranger, what is it you have here?
Your border guard has gone lax, I fear"

"They're guard has not gone lax at all."
I answered her, my voice a drawl,
"I have come, as I must,
The elves are waiting for me, I trust?"

Her eyes go to the ranger,
"Why have you brought us this danger?
You must take her to Liadin the Mage,
We elves won't take part in breaking this Age."

My guide replied "I know my rights,
I will see the Elders this night.
You can try to stop her, but not I." He said.
She looked down, her face turned red.

"You two may pass, she's in your care,
When you ruin us elves, it's your burden to bear."
She stomped back to her guarding post,
The ranger went through the gate, I followed my host.

We didn't have to go far, before we stopped at a tree,
"We will stay here, And see the Elders later" He said to me.
"The Elders will summon us at sunset,
Be prepared, for the elves, you create a threat."

"I have lived for centuries, waiting for this day,
I must guide the changing of ages, or this world will fray.
This is what I've lived so long to do,
It must be like the prophesy's, every one must come true."

"Do you think that I don't know this, Mage?
I know you are really the Seeker of Age,
I know your job and the prophesy's well,
But they are thoughts not fit to dwell."

Another elf came running up, "So it's true...
Oh! The Elders won't wait, they're coming to you."
As if his words were magic, the Elders came into sight,
I hoped they would help me, they just might.

The first Elder looked at me, "So your the one."
He turned to the others, "It must be done."
Another speaks up, "We have considered the danger,
At first light you leave, you'll be taking her, Ranger."

The middle Elder looks at me, "I hope your quest successful,
You should both go to sleep, I hope it's restful."
We camped among the trees, the forest floor as our bed,
And as the Elders left, The Ranger looked at me and said,

"Thus will begin our dangerous quest,
But tonight we will get some rest.
Tomorrow, our adventure starts,
And from this beautiful land, we must depart."
