The Flame

Contributed by Dr_Calm on Sunday, 6th July 2003 @ 07:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: SongLyrics

She was lovely and blonde,
Her eyes were blue as can be.
She knelt down and whispered,
Hey, don’t you remember me.
Looking up at her face,
Staring through the age.
I recognized her eyes,
As she danced on the stage.

My mind raced back,
To the year I was twenty-two
And the day I last looked into,
Her eyes so blue.
We went down separate roads that day,
We were both doing what we should.
My road led to Boston,
Hers led to Hollywood.

She wanted to act,
She was going to be a star.
But Hollywood’s a tough town,
She never got very far.
Boston was good to me,
I worked my way up the line.
Life’s treated me pretty good,
It seemed most of the time.

After the song was over,
We talked for a while.
I sensed some desperation,
As she seemed to force a smile.
My mind ran through pictures,
Of the memories we made.
The images were sharp,
And the flame hadn’t started to fade.

(Chorus)
The flame can start with a spark,
Or it could start with a flare.
Get close to the flame,
If you’re brave enough to dare.
You might feel the heat,
Or you might feel the burn.
But getting close is the only way,
You’re ever gonna learn.

That summer was really hot,
For the two of us that season.
We ignited really fast,
Burned bright, for a reason.
It seemed like we clicked,
From the moment we met.
With a passionate fire,
I never grew to regret.

The sultry music kept playing,
Talking, while we had the chance.
She smiled and said “I missed you babe;
I’ll be back after this dance.”
I don’t know what she wanted,
Cause while she was on the floor.
I paid my tab and quickly walked,
Through the crowd and out the door.

The streets were empty,
The sky was dark.
I just kept on driving,
Didn’t want to park.
Is there a lesson here?
Something to be learned?
When you get close to a fire,
Sometimes it’s o.k. to get burned.
Years from now that flame,
May still burn hot.
But if you touch the flame now,
It’ll feel like you got shot.

Chorus
The flame can start with a spark,
Or it could start with a flare.
Get close to the flame,
If you’re brave enough to dare.
You might feel the heat,
Or you might feel the burn.
But getting close is the only way,
You’re ever gonna learn.

Shari,

Thanks again for taking the time to comment on my lyrics. Currently, there is no music for this song. I have a friend in a band and they are in the process of recording a CD of 11 original songs. I let them see the lyrics to a few songs, and I have either 3 or 4 going onto the CD. I am also in the process of getting a project together to get 14 or so, of my lyrics copyrighted, so I can pursue getting them to others.

Thanks again for the encouraging words.

Jeffrey

ShadowsCloud,

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my lyrics called "The Flame". I write a lot of lyrics for a friends band. They are currently putting together a CD of 11 orginal songs, and I have four songs going on the CD.

I will look for some of your work to read.

Thanks again.

I really like this, the flow, it'd make an awesome song, and I'd love to hear it one day with music behind it. Thanks for sharing.
