T'was Springtime in the Rockies
In January 2003, you know!
You couldn't find a snowflake anywhere.
The snow forgot how to snow!
The temperatures rose, to an all time "High"
The Gas Company closed.
While we told the Electric Company,
Good-bye!
No one "spring housed cleaned."
For, we had months before finished that chore.
Off came our storm windows.
And heavy coverings from our front door!
The sun grew so very bright.....
There was nothing left but light!
We don't live close to Alaska,
Yet, there was no night!
The birds became "Twitterpated!"
I saw one build a nest.
The bears tried to hibernate,
But they couldn't rest!
To observe we, Wyomites,
Must have been quite a sight!
We all wore California sunglasses,
And without sleep, we were all ready to fight!
We all became so red,
From sunburn, I was told.....
We'd have given a million,
Just to be cold!
The Geese flew North,
Instead of South....
It was so amazing to see!
They lost their direction.
Birds were falling from every tree!
All our dogs were shedding,
At the wrong time this year.
The fleas showed up,
And chewed every ear!
Then nature caught on.
As the grass turned green.
The tulips began to rise.
I've never seen such a scene!
The mailman shed layers,
His snow boots were thrown away!
I saw one carrying his bag, "Barefoot."
I swear to this day....
He was as red as a boiled lobster,
And so stiff, all he could do was sway!
Then they had to close all the schools.
T'was so dry the Air Conditioners shut down
So, with very little sleep,
And the noises of children all around.
Not one adult could be found!
I saw them all running.....
Toward the Old Locker Plant,
that was just about to close.
When the owner saw them coming,
He immediately FROZE.
They used his body to generate cold!
They all lived there for months,
Atleast, that's what I was told!
The children missed their skiing.
Sledding and ice skating too!
The waters never froze,
No snow on the hill......
"Sandpiles" just couldn't fill the bill!
We all so missed the snow.....
Most put "snow scenes" on their computer desktop,
Atleast it looked cool,
That's where most of the kids would flop!
Whole cities began to pray for snow.
Churches had raffles, and bake sales,
They all saved their monies for clouds to seed.
We all got fat on the cookies,
But all that showed up was a lot of weed.
Then the drought took over,
Our livestock became so thin.
I saw a big cow being carried over the school house,
With a Great Gig Gust of Wind!
This is going to put Wyoming on the map!
NASA may fly astronaurts to the moon,
Here in Wyoming, we have deer, antelope, and even moose......flying at "High Noon!"
How did all of this happen?
What went wrong?
No snow, nor snow storm.....
There was a rumor,...No snow clouds could form!
The winds increased,
I always knew that "Wyoming Wind" would do us all in!
So, the weatherman would soon relate.
There will by no snow this year....
For the "snow clouds" can't even form!
They're all being blown into another state!

Kreps Kritter-a thoroughly good read, and good for a laugh too.Grew up in the great state of Wyoming, and could picture all of this poem in my mind. I'd give it a high mark! And I've been writing unpublished poetry for fun for a lot of years. |

Thanking you Kreps Kritter, my dear friend. I recognized your name immediately, and you gave me such high marks. Could it be that you are the slightest bit prejudiced dear friend?
Thank you for taking the time to encourage me to write more. I will when you start writing yours down on this site too!

Dear Crow,
Thank you, Crow, so glad it brightened your day! I graduated from Wheatland High School, do you remember hearing of that town? I used to cheerlead in Lusk, nearly broke my hand in the gym door one night. Come back to Wyoming where we treat you right!
Warm Creative Love,

Thank you lovingwhispers, so glad you enjoyed this one. I'd rather write funny poetry than any other. We all need to laugh more. The next one I'm posting is about one of my little dogs. It's called "Little Looney Tooney" You''ll love it. She's the cutest little creature I've ever seen.

Thank you Michelle, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Writing funny poems are my favorites. They just seem to come natural. I'll be posting more soon.
Driving a truck through Wyoming in the Winter on ice with wind is like "taking your own life in your hands!" Very dangerous, but we are glad you passed through. Come see us again, in the summer!
