Do say what fine mount seems best made to ride?
Is donkey better rode than charger great?
Is person humble seen; do they do pride?
Now please tell me your mind - what seems first rate?

in their blood though polluted by intermarriage." "True, Don Huerra.
My people have much spirit. All one has to do is fan it a little."
"Militant spirit won Mexico, Excellency." Captain Thompson entered
the conversation. "Mr. Huerra, I wonder what's been best for Mexico and
California, militant or religious spirit? Do you think it's men on horses
or men on donkeys that serve people best?" "An interesting question, Captain.
I think they go hand in hand, both equally important. Soldiers conquer
bodies, priest convert souls. It's always been Spain's policy to win
and keep peoples by use of sword and cross. Cortez served Spain
well by conquering the Aztecs. He gave Spain wealth used as political
leverage in Europe. He also served Mother Church by destroying their
heathen gods. Force made it possible for Catholic priests to convert
indians from their heathen practices to Christianity. Personally, I
prefer horses to donkeys. Do you ride?" Captain Thompson considered
question, answering truthfully. "Mr. Huerra, you've discovered my
weakness. I can sit a horse when I have to, but much prefer a carriage."

i appreciate your original style...it is a shame, this poem is rarely read...people are missing out...a well written, thought provoking poem...take care...kara
