The little girl was five years old
Pretty girl, long wavy blonde hair
Remembers not love
But confusion from within
The hurt came from her tummy
And she did not understand
Why her mother had done what she did.
Woke up in a strange room
A room of many beds
Strange women
Wearing robes of black
Bodies covered from head to toe
The women of the cloth
And of her new home.
A disciplined life for a young child
A life of the church
A church she did not understand
Only of the cruelty of a beating
When she learnt not to wet her bed.
She learnt not to trust
Only of herself
She learnt not to love
Cause love was only pain
Pain caused tears of hurt
And the hurt took a piece from her heart.
She only had herself
And drew into her own
Her thoughts were only hers
And did not need to be shared
She was frightened of this life
And did not understand
Why no one could love her
For she was only a child
A child who was lost from home.
