Four Petals Apart

Grief
|
Three lives were given to me, in the summer of buzzing bees,
and hold them close I tried, though this was not how it was to be.
I wished four petals of one rose, in the summer of swaying trees,
but angels decreed for the three and me, a future quite different than what I believed.
Given to myself and the beautiful three, in the summer of cooling breeze,
were four petals and four roses, against which I did most ardently plea.
For of the love which was love times three, a signed check is all the three would see,
and in my dwelling ripe with regret, I remember a summer of three just for me.
