I found a penny in the street,
Dulled with age and time.
It must have travelled far and wide,
Before fate made it mine.
I thought of where it must have gone,
Through many peoples' hands.
I thought of the people who held it close,
In its travels across this land.
And though we both lead different lives,
This coin reminded me
Of all the loves that I have had,
And the many hands that have held me.
And here am I, dulled with age,
Lonely yet again.
And I will be this coin's next love,
Then I'll pass it on again.
The coin I found was just like me,
And with this on my mind,
I put it back and left it there
For someone else to find.

This poem has great flow to it, smooth transitions and also a complex and beautiful analogy. Cool stuff. |

I hear you, see the metaphor
there's a hint of self pity, disillusionment
but hey so far as this poet is concerned
'universal love' tops 'to be loved alone'
There's nothing wrong in sharing love
in a good positive way. |
