silence comes to me as a gift
although the world is filed with noise
i welcome the silence as a friend
an almost-forgotten, old acquaintance
it settles self-assuredly
where lustful emotions
and excited thoughts
once took abode
silence soothes and heals
my offended soul
it befriends my unforgiving heart
it relieves my guilty conscience
and now, whole again
i can start over
and face life
but first i must enjoy this silence

I agree, there is nothing as soothing
as the sound of silence. |

"my offended soul
it befriends my unforgiving heart
it relieves my guilty conscience"
is my fav part in this poem. i absolutely love the "self realization" in your poems.. not too many people have this as they try too hard to be ideolists.
The beginning of your poem reminded me of a wise quote, one of my favourites.. i don't remember it exactly.. but something like "i have learned patience from the impatient, tolerance from the intolerant.. compasion from the ignorant.. and silence from the talkative.. and yet i am thankful from these teachers.".. what does this really have to do with your poem? maybe nothing at all.. merely the brief mention of "silence".. and the fact that one can project the quote towards their experience in love..
but.. i think silence is the most powerful weapon of the mind.. of all.
