I wanted to be open, honest and direct
why did this have to make me defenseless?
Trust and vulnerability
have to go hand in hand!
I have had to sit on nails,
lick my wounds in mute silence.
Forced indifference into my eyes
making invisible tears hard to trace.
I have had to embrace
nothing and no one!
Walking a tightrope and hoping
that I can deal truth out of a deck
stuffed with jokers and wild cards.
So long as I have the king of hearts
somewhere in there
don't matter where.
When the shuffling is over
I can sit back, cut the deck...
what the heck, I may still
get a brake.

This poem rocks! Your card play analogy is developed wonderfully throughout. The "stacked deck" and "king of hearts" work very well to further your message. |

Your poem makes up for a lot

Maverick we ain't so don't expect
the deck of life will not reject
nor will advance more than a trance
if you break even you're ahead the dance... |
