Despite changing faces
Of the old time I gave you,
The dunes still shift over-swept sands.
Discovering new places
In the morning Cassandra,
Is your own torn lace
Of interlocked strands.
Despite the dimensions
Of collapsed inhibition,
Folds of trapped ribbon in eyes,
I let you think me a fool,
Dear Cassandra
Believing I can’t see past the disguise.
Despite corrugated words
Spitting splinters Cassandra
Despite knowledge that love won’t suffice
Lives the clarity of tragic fact
Poor Cassandra
That your shield is weaker
Than newly formed ice.
