The Cricket Match

Contributed by chatabox on Wednesday, 7th August 2002 @ 08:59:53 PM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

Its only a laugh, its just for fun
Its ladies versus the men
but we know its not about loosing
our aim is to try and beat them

The men got all the pads on
to them this was serious cricket
they wasn`t going to let us girlies
whip the bail from off their wicket

Now Cathy bowled a perfect length
her hubby decided to run
Johnathon swiped with all of his might
and was caught at silly mid on.

It looked like this was the mens game
as we wilted and glowed in the heat
only one thing now left to do
us girls would just have to cheat

They tried to wack us for a four and a six
but we had the advantage as wives
we casually mentioned about something they liked
that would be missing soon from their lives

So just when the men looked set to win
and beating our 74
their batting order suddenly collapsed
without adding a run to their score.

I know nothing about cricket but this piece still caught me. I like the subtle twist of nifty humour and it flows well, thanks for the read.

I really enjoyed this poem, even though I have never seen a cricket match before. On the other hand, cricket is my guy's favorite sport, so I think he will also like this poem.
good job:-)

Hi Chatabox, being an avid cricket fan, and an 'all-right' batsman myself, I know exactly what you are talking about. I enjoyed this piece immensely, and it reminded me of a time when we couldn't get my husband out, and I faked a pain.. it ended up back-firing tho, as they called the ambulance ..lmao...
Thanks for the memories...
Jenni

That famous "holding out" can really get results from us men. I wonder how many major world and business decisions are spurred from that occurance?:)

Never knew how to play Cricket. Sounds like a fun game. Too bad about the men not winning. Maybe next time. Great humor. I love it.
