The fleeting of innocence

Trash now plays in the street
Where happy children's voices used to meet
The dirty sidewalks with all their clutter
Now rarely hear what the children mutter
The chalk drawings have all but gone
And the light posts now seem all alone
The weeds that live in sidewalk cracks
Long to see a game of jacks
What has driven the children so far?
Could it be the bustle of the car?
Could it be the lurking danger?
Or the threat from a stranger
Where have all the children gone?
Are they now jailed in their home?

This is really sad. I have passed the places where I used to play as a child but now kids have computers and game consols. They don't seem to spend much time outside like I used to as a child.
The poem was great. There was a real feeling of a desolate place. Very grey and a feeling of abandonment. Great work.
