Growing Up

Contributed by Angel12881 on Wednesday, 7th August 2002 @ 01:42:03 PM in AEST
Topic: FriendshipPoetry

Best friends forever,
we all promised each other.
We believed we'd never drift apart.
We were so naive.
Summer's a harsh season,
filled with good-byes and hurt feelings.
It wasn't like this last year.
We drifted apart, went our own separate ways.
But fall brought reconciliation.
Not this year.
It's different this year,
I can feel it in the air.
We wont be coming back together,
we'll be scattered among different schools.
We knew this, and still believed we'd stay friends.
But it's not going to happen.
We've ruined what we had.
We've all made new friends,
so we've all just lost touch.
Maybe it's a good thing,
maybe we're growing up
leaving our childhood friendships,
for the ones that will really last.
It still hurts.
We've been through everything,
and got through it.
When friends moved we kept touch.
On September 11th we comforted each other's tears.
When we fought we always made up.
It's odd really,
after surviving so much,
something as trivial as a summer
could ruin friendships forged since childhood.
You'll make new friends,
I've been told.
But it wont be the same.
We didn't grow up together,
we wont know each other's past.
Maybe it's a good thing,
a chance to start over and be something else.
Maybe there is some good in growing up.
But as we do,
you have to wonder:
Are we really growing up?
Or are we simply growing apart?

Angel this is a beautiful poem...you and your friends are both growing up and apart...it's sad but sometimes we just lose touch and maybe sometime down the road they will think of you or vice versa and you will regain touch...
