When I was a child,
I used to play amongst the apple trees.
Squash the mouldy ones upon my sisters head.
I would eat the ripe ones before I went to bed.
Now I have become an apple.
A dead one laying on the ground.
Soft, Bruised, decaying and dying.
I lay there until the new leaders come along
And squash me under foot without noticing.
If only they came here earlier.
I was in my prime and so very sweet.
They would have wanted me.
They couldn’t have reached me.
They would have noticed me.
Now I give myself to the earth.
