“you’re a piece of crap,”
she hesitatingly purrs with a sweet softness,
Unable to mask the underlying conviction of her revelation,
Not because I never called,
Not because I didn’t reach out to you,
To cross that agonizing barrier between love and friendship,
But because I loved you like no one else ever will,
After pouring the depth of my soul into the cup of your heart,
You knew it would never quench your thirst for life…
We talk for endless hours of the dreams we would live,
A dream of what we could become,
If we believed in each other, if we fought for everything we want,
Those dreams would seep from the subconscious of our daring souls,
And as the night turns to day,
Become our bread of life,
Together…hand and hand
Uncanny connection of two souls joined forces to take on the world,
But the connection has been severed; you’re dancing for someone else now,
Dreaming different dreams that hold no place for me,
Not because I didn’t think about you,
Not because I didn’t miss you,
But because I still love you like no one else ever will,
And after daring to dream of what we could become,
You knew it would never quench your thirst for life…
The summer days are long now,
They refuse to bring a deliverance that never seems to find me,
I cannot forget what I become,
Obligatory phone call,
An old friend of dedication,
Comfort in this cruel time where tomorrow fades into the disappointment of yesterday,
There is no more promise of the future,
Or of dreams to hold onto,
Like the words you never could say,
Alone again because I loved you,
A cruel reality only your voice could bring,
I could never give you what you need,
Leaving me stranded in a state of your unrelenting indifference.
