The Runaway Wish

Contributed by Sarina on Tuesday, 10th June 2003 @ 02:05:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

Only one person,
heard the soft tap of rocks,
against the window frame,
the only one,
meant to hear it.

She was young,
just barely sixteen,
and in love with the boy next door.

He was older,
no longer a boy,
but a man of eighteen.

Her parents were missing,
the chance to trap her,
forever in a loveless hole,
she was leaving.

She opened her window,
leaned down,
and kissed her love,
then he helped her down,
and grabbed her hand.

They looked toward the road,
no cars were coming,
so they walked slowly,
stopping in the middle,
for a short kiss.

They didn't see,
the now approaching car,
it was like jaws,
hungry for blood,
she didn't even have time to scream.

They lay side by side,
in the ambulance,
gripping each others hands.

His heart was punctured,
with a steel rod,
acting as a stake,
and she was drowning,
as her lungs filled with blood.

"Stay with me,"
the paramedics were saying,
"Don't close your eyes,"
but it was hard,
to stay awake.

Arriving in the emergency room,
family and friends,
comforting each other,
as they were wheeled away.

"Please be okay,"
you could hear they say,
through the tears,
but they were going to die,
nothing the doctors could say,
would change that.

"Please put me,
beside my love,"
she said showing,
a pool of blood,
in her mouth.

They put the beds,
together as one,
and she slid over,
beside her love.

"I LOVE YOU,"
he whispered,
"FOREVER,"
he smiled,
unable to talk further.

"Forever and a day,"
she whispered back,
"Forever and a day MY LOVE,
forever and a day."

In those last few moments,
they felt no pain,
no sorrow,
only their love,
swelling, and consuming,
their souls.

When their family came in,
they found them like that,
smiling, but no longer breathing,
and as they saw their children,
they felt relief,
because each had gotten their wish,
to be together for all eternity.
