Sonnet I

With each night that I lay myself to sleep,
I find the day’s enactment more rapid,
Though longer do I wait for dreams to creep,
Upon me, cast themselves on my eye-lid.
Softly playing music sets the night’s mood,
While my body seeks a peaceful posture,
Within my active mind, strangest thoughts brood,
I patiently await the morning’s cure.
Through the drawn drapes dawn’s light does gently seep,
Trickling in like dew down a blade of grass,
And waking me from my imagined sleep,
Quickly fills the room as one muted mass.
I rise, swearing never to let my mind,
Wander forth, leaving my body behind.
