you give me something to dream about,
before you, the tides of emotion abated,
before you, two halves of my mind debated,
with one another.
silly thoughts raced each other,
rationality like paper flew out the window,
now you cause it not to blow,
away, you are the paperweight,
upon my stack of conscious thought,
before you, I would crawl out of bed half dead,
but now I rise feeling fresh and new,
and sometimes I just wake and lift my head to kiss you,
as if to kiss the morning sun,
because I find it ever in the one I love.
before you, direction was lacking,
and I found it difficult tracking,
the path that I was meant to walk,
little did I know,
there was no path set in stone,
no brightly lit alley to follow,
no tunnel, hollow,
street, avenue, gate or bridge,
no placid lake or dangerous ridge,
to cross.
nor was there great depression or loss,
to stand between myself and my prize,
for when we are together the distance between our eyes,
is miles farther than the distance between our hearts.

i love the paperweight metaphor - i like the rhyme because its not too forced and the last lines are romantic and well expressed. finally, a love poem that isn't too cheesy! excellent write, Kate x |
