Leaf and Needle

Contributed by Invierno on Thursday, 12th May 2016 @ 10:58:04 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Two saplings in a forest grew,
side by side, a foot, then two.
sires both, unknown unsought;
mighty Oak or scrawny Pine,
both to young to lend it thought;
unconcerned for what they were-
caring not who came from who-
hierarchy/'/s cruelness yet unlearned.

Sharing sun, (a sapling/'/s fun),
grew these spindly dowels of wood;
the same they looked, as they felt;
both knew that this was good.

Then of a day, for one alone,
an infant leaf to life thus leapt-
a pride unknown, now full grown
whispered to it “Oaks are best”.

T/'/other tasted virgin shame,
needles poking what lay in store,
for plain to see, none to blame;
life decreed two friends no more.

Excellent poem Mike.
I really like this and unfortunately true in the human world as well. I don/'/t know how you came up with this but it was very unique and the phrasing-word choices were stellar!

/'/All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others./'/ And, prejudice is not intrinsic, it is taught.
Well done, a point well made, and inwardly digested.

the tree or the ant
the non-thinking beauty
or maybe just one cell alone in a thinking body
perhaps a skunk

then, there/'/s the non-living
simple-loving rock
and the winds and oceans and below the molten
core, oh the lived jousting they must endure

and all the space beyond here where somewhere
it just has to be, in some other land
perhaps in another galaxy far far away

I imagine that the fern rules them all

A place simply known as,
Where the fern rules!!!
One might suppose...

and redwoods obey

Peace!

What a lovely song of innocence and equality.
You have paraphrased the garden of Eden.

As children we share everything, until we learn the concept of mine.
Labels mark our limitations, yet we are unchanged.
We surely do "Taste virgin shame".
You have reminded me to be thoughtful of what I say to others, that I don/'/t paste a label that will stunt their search for the sunlight.
Thank you for saying it so well.
