lovers of reading
love books;
trailing their fingers along
spines of nestled covers,
in gestures of tactile affection.
book aficionados seek the release
of fresh pressings;
sniffing the ink
as their digits trace fonts,
braille-like, across the pages.
cricked necks tilt,
coy-like, at shop shelves
and their horizontal tyranny;
eyes fixed and searching,
eager for that coveted title
or the gem in the mix.
lovers of books
eat, sleep and nest with their acquisitions,
from table to bed and private nooks;
cascading down stairs or blocking the toaster,
they live surrounded by their collections;
overwhelmed, over-read, and at peace.

Beautiful. If I laugh, or if I get teary, or get simply excited, when I read. I hate folk asking me: /'/what was that about?
Leave me alone, I/'/m reading!
The beauty of a book is: it will never be the same to different readers, even if a billion people read it. It belongs to the reader. And that is unique. Look at the painting, /'/An experiment on a bird in an air pump./'/ We know the subject, and we can analyse the thoughts of those in the painting. We all see the same painting. But a book? Now, we never see the same images. Books, when they are well written, are a stroking of the mind. Freedom to imagine. |

then back to poetry
