The Anniversary (if it matters)

Nothing matters on a Saturday without you
cartoons for the kids
and a culdesac of purpose
a blue March sky melting winter's cover
but it wouldn't matter if it stormed
the street emptied into a pile of dirty snow
like a brownish gray burned-out Dresden
and a guardrail that said "dead end"
blank and pale like my calendar
no dinner dates or rendezvous to stir a batch of passion
only the stale bread staff
chaffed by the wind of losing you
it will come, I suppose,
and you will be gone
leaving me eating my sandwich on break
at the end of time
when on a Saturday without you
nothing mattered anymore
someone would eventually find what's left
of a brown paper bag lunch
close the case to open anew
something that mattered.

Thanks Christina. I was hoping someone caught on to the poem. I was thinking it was a little too vague or misunderstood. No one was commenting and I was getting a little worried that those who did read it were either perplexed or demoralized. |
