Nature’s Forces

OK, lets explain some stuff;
Thats puzzled me for long enough!
Some whys and hows of everyday;
We know, but cant explain away!

If you could move as fast as light;
(300 milllon miles of flight;
In just one second) you could go;
Around the earth 8 times or so!

Sound travels with far less power;
(700 miles per hour!)
Explaining why the lightening flashes;
Long before the thunder crashes!

If the thunder’s long delayed;
We know the lightening’s far away!
The quicker that the thunder claps,
The closer to the storm were at!
--------------------------------------
Heat’s another source of doubt;
Used, but seldom thought about!
Though we cannot see or hear it;
We can tell when we are near it!!

Molecules that bump and clash;
Warm by friction mighty fast!
(When we rub our hands together;
They get warm despite the weather)

Heat is friction--
when it stops;
Temperatures begin to drop.
Under pressure stuff is cooled;
(Because the molecules can’t MOVE)!

Even gases change their state;
Slowed by pressure’s concentrate.
We can squish a gas so still;
It turns to liquid, (super chilled).

Freon boils in indoor air;
Sucking heat from everywhere!
Pressure squeezes heat out, then;
The cycle starts up once again!
The state that we call "cold" you see;
Exists not in reality.
Its not a force; but absence of;
the motion that makes heat we love!

Sound shakes molecules with waves;
Heating food in microwaves!
Literally, you fry the bacon;
‘Cause inside the bacons shaken!

-----------------------------------------
When you think of using light;
To find the bathroom late at night;
Would you believe me when I say;
You use a laser everyday?

Just like Star War’s famed light saber;
Or a Treckie’s hand-held phaser;
Licensed by the FCC;
Your Class I Laser plays CDs.

----------------------------------
But the king of mysteries;
Must be electricity!
Energy that moves so fast;
Anywhere it finds a path!

Every electrician knows;
That molecules lined up in rows;
Dont impede the currents flow!
(Called conductors, dontcha know)!

Paths with molecules astray;
Block the current on its way;
Insulating us (we pray!)

Friction caused by currents flow;
Heats up pathways as it goes.
Bare wires get so hot they glow!
(Thats how toasters toast you know)

But current isn’t very wise;
It doesnt care the wire’s size!
The more you plug; the more you get;
Faster, hotter I regret;

And the deadliest mistake;
Is counting on a fuse to break;
Few are left behind to boast sir;
If your house becomes a toaster.

------------------------------------
Nature doesnt change her rules;
Although we use her force as tools..
Knowledge is there for the finding;
And I think it bears reminding:
When we make a foolproof tool;
Someone makes a better fool!

If youve ever walked a dog;
You understand this epilog:
No harness made is quite as strong;
As is the force weve put it on!

A very elegant and educational poem indeed.
Beautiful flow with subject matter a guy can really appreciate. A very well written and thought out poem. Superb as usual.
