Beating of my heart

The beating of my broken heart, now chained and locked away
beats much louder through the night than words could ever say
Steady and hard like a drum beat pounding,
loving you was so astounding,

until we fell apart...

Every night I fall asleep wondering what went wrong
it keeps me up late, playing endlessly; a haunting song
But, deep in my heart I know we could never go back
since loving you hurts extremely worse than a piercing tack,

that/'/s why we fell apart...

Every now and then I realize why I chained my heart,
you didn/'/t make me whole, you only ripped me apart
Now, steady like a drum beating hard and fast
I can finally keep the hurt at bay so the pain doesn/'/t last

so I can be whole again...
