You cannot escape me; I know where you are!
There’s nowhere to hide no matter how far;
You travel or change, or wear a disguise:
Cover your tracks with falsehoods and lies!
Others may trust you and gladly believe;
But I know the secrets kept tucked in your sleeve!
You have no motives I cannot decipher;
Fear as you might that you must pay the piper!
In the darkest of nights while you sleep in your bed;
I read like a book every thought in your head!
I know where you’re going, and where you’ve been.
I see through your false moves and count up your sins!
I could care less of your good-hearted deeds;
They carry no weight against self-serving greed!
I watch and I count, and I ledger your wrongs;
Whispering warnings of where you belong!
Be it a heaven or be it a hell;
I know your secrets and I’ll surely tell;
All that I know of this life that we share;
Oh, what you’d give if I weren’t there!
I am that little voice in your head;
I am that impending feeling of dread;
When you know better and do it in spite;
I am the nightmare that comes in the night..
To tell you again of the seeds that you sow;
I am your conscience, as if you don’t know!

wonderfully true and evocative to boot
the clouded sheltered conscience the little ship
that was redirected this little bit here that little bit there
that remembers even when it might not be pleasant
How do you go there knowing what it knows without being honest, what do you say to others who have made the same mistakes
Do you speak up, do you stand up for all the young ones who were born into a terrible world that they did not make
And when you do, do you listen enough to your own mistakes
to lead to where, to why, what is there to learn
is it the memory, is it the conscience that keeps you awake in the bed at night
when no one has all the answers, no one is not troubled by problems that face their own coming day
But all must listen to this voice you speak of that resides within each of our heads (or hearts, or souls)
This is lovely softerware, you have a way with words for sure!
Peace! |

As usual spectacular.
Reminds me of the Police-Sting song." I/'/ll be watching you ". Also when you/'/re a teenager you got it going on and your parents are out of it. As you grow older you realize they knew all of your tricks because they lived that life 30 years earlier.
Really enjoyed this.

whose been talking? WHO?!
Well done; I felt quite...exposed.
My ledger must be as weighty as your poem, although you have to be good to have a conscience...
