Digital Duet

Topic: FriendshipPoetry

I have a friend, we’ve never met, I ‘ve never seen his face;
All I know I read on line, his words speak to his grace.
He’s never heard my voice; or looked into my eyes;
The internet is who he is, it’s his and my disguise.

Perhaps he has an accent, or maybe he is mute;
Writing from a jail cell or a hallowed institute!
Could be that he’s a landlord; could be he drives a truck;
I know not if he’s wealthy; or run down on his luck.

I’m careful what I share with him, and likewise so is he;
Black flickers on a lighted screen are not reality!
The internet’s a party mask that filters scars and sins;
And words alone the palette that paints the skin within.

I once admired a disc jockey, and in time imposed;
a face to match the voice I heard, until his image showed;
on a giant city billboard, and much to my chagrin;
He didn’t match at all the image I held fond of him!

Wiser now I’m careful; not too quick to trust
In my imagination, after all, it /'/ s just;
A happy compilation of what I want to see;
With that in mind, we’ve come to find, that friendship still can be.

And thus we walk a sightless talk; a monorail in rhyme;
Like dancing with no partner; like wind without a chime!
For we have come to understand in spite of all pretention;
The mirror we look into is of our own invention!

I started // internetting // in 1998. Wow, I/'/ve learned much since then. I must say I have dropped my guard some since 2003-04 but still better at guarding myself than I was in 1998 or so. I have met a lot of people in person though and have made many friends via the net.

There is much truth you penned so well here. In reality, I/'/m a buggity-boo! /wink photo cid_20464F9289AB441CB8AAF7967356146.gif///

Brilliant as usual.
Well said and so true. Masterfully executed!
