Penny For Pound For Shilling For Joy

Contributed by Invierno on Sunday, 6th December 2015 @ 08:53:54 AM in AEST
Topic: poets

Magic floats from monitors,
brewed in kettles shaped as keyboards,
wires used for broomsticks
transmit to us, the poet hordes.

Hours, countless, doubtless spent
pursuing passions shared;
this site, (the one you're on right now)
is in dire straights and need of care.

Distill the joy and satisfaction,
the years, poetic bliss;
Who needs twenty dollars more?
Walmart or the site's creator,
our benefactor, Mick?

I speak for me, (and others too),
when posing query here to you;
If a friend you loved was ill and you could help
pray tell, what would you do?

Pretend your cash is penicillin,
an infusion to return to health,
a little bit from all of us
will sustain our poetic wealth.

Thanks for taking a stand Mike! Well put...
At 22,000 users it could be $1 a person and great things could be accomplished. I have a programmer willing to donate his time to update for free, but no point if the financial situation isn't handled. Support the site!
As my own little vent for anyone reading out there who is posting but not taking the time to read and comment on your fellow poster's work remember unless you are a premium member you should be commenting on 3 poems for every one you post. Everyone appreciates feedback so for those who are dropping the ball...let's all play by the rules.
Let's not kill the messengers just friendly reminders of what it takes to keep this place going for all of us.
Kris

Hi Mike,

First I shall begin by saying I love this poem. Yes, I used the word love. I love the poem and its message. I especially love that first stanza for some reason.

I love this site.

now moving along

The deprecated site error thing has been reported but I fear (and I cannot stress the word fear enough) that Mick is lying somewhere in a hospital incapacitated and I hope not worse. :( So, yes, while $$$$ would definitely help the site, we need to think of Mick's health too and if anyone prays, pray for him. Yes, poetry is important but so is Mick's health! I am worried.

There are indeed 22,786 registered users. Are they active on the site? No! Were they ever active? Yes and no. I know for a fact that at least two are dead. Robert Edgar Burns and my sister, member name jigsma. Their memberships are still here. Unlike AllPoetry.com, Mick does not automatically delete accounts simply based on inactivity (happened to me at allpoetry). Some of these members signed up and never did anything with their account. Many are duplicate accounts (and shouldn't be). Some people forget their password and instead of contacting site help, they create another account. Yay them! So, I estimate at least 50% of these accounts could be deleted and no one would ever notice. No one really thinks that there are actually 10,000 to 20,000+ active members do they?

Now, yes, there are members who come here and simply post poems. Jabberwocky, Randy Johnson, winniss t name a few. Am I insulting them? No. Am I attacking them? No, so I feel I can, by site rules, legally state these facts because it is obviously true. Why do we support these members? I haven't a clue. I don't. They don't realize that by interacting it makes the advertisers more likely to by ad space rather than purchasing from a slow or inactive site. The more we interact the more it supports the site. I'm not even sure the post and run guys even care.

If anyone sees this comment, however, commenting is not a rule and I am glad it's not. Even though I strongly think that supporting the other poets/authors is needed and a kind act, I am against forcing someone's hand to comment. It promotes hollow and empty commenting, plus it promotes commenting just to get more poems on. I, for one, would have never continued to write and improve if it weren't for the encouraging words I received early on.

So, while we're on rules, it is a rule that we do not fool the language filters. There's a reason the language filter is there, so we really cannot pick and choose which rules we'll obey and which ones we will not. I see premium members fool the filters when they could have simply posted the poem in the premium section. Premium members can post their ***** and ***** in the premium section. General members, you can't any where! The general section is geared towards the family. Yes, there are actually members under ten years old at times. The filters apply to the entire site. The reason why anyone is surprised their poem or comment or forum post disappears when fooling the filters is because they don't thoroughly read the rules.

Okay, sort of digressing now. Was just thinking if we're mentioning rules, then we need to abide by them...all.

There are other ways to support the site, though. Clicking the links for ads, interacting, or premium memberships.

But the one thing I ask for now is prayer for Mick. If you don't believe in that, then good vibes, well wishes, concern, and empathy for him. He had a surgery back in September and in my uneducated medical opinion but experience with surgeries, he returned to work much too soon. I plead with God that Mick is okay.

Thank you, Mike, for this poem and thanks to everyone who supports YPDC.

Tim

Nicely done Michael. :)

I'm not even kidding, every month when I see the goal, I get a bit disappointed. I've donated a few times, often not much. $5 a couple, $20 once, and I paid the membership as well. I found it a bit of a surprise that you uploaded this poem, because coincidentally not even 24 hours before you uploaded I was actually considering writing a poem about it as well. Looks like you beat me to it brotha. Lol
