Dear Ole Dad

Dear ole dad
As you know
We buried you today
It was so sad
For all of those that you have known
But I wanted you to know
I prayed for you
Each and every day
Hoping it would all go down
In some other kind of way
Folks from near and far
Gathered today
To wish you farewell
In a special way
With much love and respect
You were the star of the day
A man loved by the people
Although you kept your great
Achievements and good deeds
So very silent
Hidden away
You were a strong willed man
Void of needs
And I was your number one fan
I'm so sorry it was such
A cold and cloudy windy day
While at the gravesite
When the priest mentioned your name
The crowd stood in awe
When a bright ray of the sun suddenly shined on through
It made us all so very happy
Because we all knew
In our hearts
It was you

Once again, so sorry for your loss, Jim. This is certainly a beautiful dedication.

This: When a bright ray of the sun suddenly shined on through Reminded me of a time my former mother-in-law, Lee, passed away in 88 or 89.

The funeral was on an overcast cloudy day and a tad cool.

After I divorced my first wife and the ***** finally settled over the next few years, Lee and I had become fairly good buds, often joking about who was the better team, The St Louis Cardinals or the New York Mets. Well, of course, the Cardinals. She loved dreary cloudy rainy days, to sit in a restaurant sipping her coffee and peering out the window and I, prefer the sunny warm days.

At the funeral and wake and all, I never cried once. Of course it was sad but I was the rock, comforting everyone else, condolences for everyone, letting them cry and speak. After the funeral and stopping at a restaurant, we headed back to the x's house and hung out, etc. Someone was showing me pics in a photo album and as we went along, one came of her at a baseball game in her NY Mets hat and then it hit me. She's gone!. Not wanting anyone to see my tears, I went outside and had a good cry. They lived behind a library and off that library's parking lot. There was a picnic table off the parking lot and near their yard. To my right, was a huge dumpster for newspaper recycling. As I sat and thought (and cried) I glanced to my right and there was Lee standing next to the dumpster and she smiled. Simultaneously, I could then suddenly feel the heat of the sun on my face. I looked up and saw the clouds parting, looked back and she was gone.

I believe they are allowed, but a moment, to let us know they're okay. Lee did it. My sister did it, and now I know your dad did it.

Thank you for touching us with this beauty.

"In the wind he's still alive".

Tim
