You were much more than a man with Jerry curls
You used to run that hill and get on top of the world
You hit up Soul Train and cut a rug
I last saw you giving your son a hug
You had the wisdom to see passed color
Your protector was white, he was your blood brother
You never spoke of dad, we really never knew what happened
You were proud, so proud, of being from Jackson
13 years in the Windy City
Playing so hard, I could feel your will
Each step you took looked so doggone pretty
You gave this skinny little kid a thrill
You could run, dance, kick, and throw
The talent you had, could you throw it below?
You made me believe, you inspired
You did your job like your hair was on fire
Seeing you in uniform, those days I miss
You were wisdom, will, and talent. You were sweetness
