I said goodbye to the son
and hello to the man;
the journey to this juncture
made me what I am.
I bid farewell to the daughter
and embraced the lady fair;
said adieu to the princess
who was no longer there.
children grow to adults
and yearn to take the field;
sometimes it’s the parents
who refuse to yield.
to always be the guardian,
sometimes their friend or foe
but also a compatriot,
we’ve been there, so we know.

So true, my son just graduated from University last week and is job hunting far from home, this poem hits home...you spend your life raising them and then have to let them fly their own way, trusting that you taught them well enough. |

I think most parents are a bit melancholy when their children become adults. It's just as scary for the children sometimes too.
Great write.
