We sat at the restaurant, chatting away;
Enjoying the moment; the end of our day.
Silverware; linens and old wooden chairs;
He tucked in his tie; I smoothed my hair.
He finished his drink; I blotted my lips;
I didn’t notice the napkin that slipped;
Off of the table as we said goodnight;
We stop for a kiss beneath the street light.
That was our first date, a lifetime ago;
And tho he’s passed on, I still love him so.
Everyone’s gone, the house is so still;
Time to clean closets and give to Goodwill;
I’ve gone through his papers and packed up his shoes;
The ones that he danced me around in till two!
And last is an old suit covered with dust;
I pull from the pocket a hankie I trust;
Yellowed and folded and easy to miss;
Is a napkin that bears the trace of a kiss.
One last "I love you"; a secret to go;
That blot salty tears to suddenly know;
That all of these years to this man in my locket;
I'd been the treasure he kept in his pocket.

In an attempt to minimize your success, simply brilliant if not better.
The first five stanzas remind me of an old time movie when people dressed up and I think had more class and romance. The golden days we love to watch on TV.
Too bad it's a slow time on here. Back in the day from what I have seen it would get one hundred comments. Worth easily that.
I remain humbled

Beautifully written. Its so sad that type of love doesn't seem to exist in the world today.

Sometimes the smallest, most insignificant things mean more to us than all the treasure of Solomon....like the subtle grin of someone we love being more appreciated than the wild laughter of a stranger. This brought a smile, one of those warm ones, to me. Thank you
Additionally, your ability to write in rhyme makes me smile to. Few can master that and you do it effortlessly.
Very well done once again
