The Death of Epic Poems

The epoch of the epic poem
has slipped with Dodo's to the great unknown.
Shelley drowned with Coleridge
in a sea of leaves of grass-
the lilac bloom has faded sore in the dooryard;
jaded by minimalism- less is more.
Epic poems (Oh shiesse! This'll take forever!)
impart as much, sometimes more
as the thirty worded fart.

Length is nothing( said the tart to the bishop). What grabs the mind, is all. And thank you for reminding us.

Depends on the poem. A short mediocre poem is bearable but a long mediocre poem makes it seem worse. |

The epic poem is a feast over time...the short poem is its own dessert!
In a world of instant gratification, we do not stop to peel the fruit; we just curse the bitterness of the peel!
A shame.
but be patient--all things come in a circle, and when we tire of tinsel, we will again seek the silver ore, and take the time to hammer it from the stone!
