The Samaritan Who Closed His Eyes

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Friday, 16th October 2015 @ 06:28:08 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Second hand news stirs the focus from lazy memories of yesterday
Reality bites, clamps bared teeth on the exposed soul
Somewhere in the dark your anguished looks see nothing but loneliness
Emptiness congeals in your veins as despair chains your spirit in an iron cage

The doors are locked from the inside, sealed with your troubles
Yet it was I who mislaid the key, consumed by trivial and mundane
Until swallowed up by self, absorbed by everything that was nothing
The Samaritan who closed his eyes, reborn as passer by

I have a map but no compass to lead me in the right direction
Scattered clues taunt hope, forging on but still chasing dust
A hand too distant to be offered, a soldier on the wrong battlefield
As each new day drags darker clouds across your shredded mind

I will cling to a thought, a prayer that we will not end in echoes
If my thoughts could cleanse, I would will them to your side
Blow away the shadows that shut out the light and summon the pain
And bring you back into sunshine, where you have always belonged.

Wow, this is really good.

I think we can all relate to this unfortunately. There's so many friendships that are lost, and when we see each other there's just so many words we would've once had to share, jokes to bond, and condolences to offer that we can no more. It makes me sad to see people that were once friends, and have nothing to talk about, and so we're both left with this disappointment that we don't share that same degree of comfort with one another. Far too often this happens.

I hope you get the chance to share this with your friend. It is such a high degree of empathy, and despite the dark and dreary state it addresses, it offers that glimmer of hope, that inspirational simple thing of a mere observance, but it compassionately says one simple thing: "I see your pain. I feel for you. You don't deserve what you are going through." These words can mean so much to us, and it's great to hear them. Unfortunately, for some of us, we don't accept them as inspiration or strength for our spirits, unless they're from a select group of people. It also very subtly by the title, and yet blatantly at the same time, reminds us that to not do good as a good person, because of being unable, or because of inactivity is a crime to our laws of contentment. I know that may seem a bit of a stretch, but there's definitely some truth to it.

Thanks for sharing this Steve. :)

Great write Steve
I agree with Mark as well and at times I'm so busy with the good and bad I feel like I'm spiraling out of control. Today we just know too many people and the older you get the larger your burdens!

I really enjoyed this!

First, I want to say that I am sorry you are going through this and that your someone is in a bad place.

As I am sure many people could relate to these feelings you're having, it reminded me of a time when my best friend died unexpectedly. Our last conversation together was not a good one and I had made her angry. I will always feel some guilt for that.

As the sun rises and sets, your excellent writing is also consistent. Your use of metaphors is very impressive.

I will pray that your relationship with this person does not "end in echoes".

Tim

At a glance I may think it/'/s too wordy. But it/'/s not. It/'/s just right. You are a master of throwing emotions out bare and raw. It makes us relate. Give us more.
