Yearning to Be Free

Contributed by softerware on Sunday, 27th September 2015 @ 03:10:16 PM in AEST
Topic: Patriotic

The welcome mat hangs on our door;
‘Give me all your tired and poor’;
We have long ago lost score;
As millions flock across our shore.

They come by tunnel, sea or sky;
Prepared or not for getting by.
Many more than we invited;
Generations re-united.

Amnesty protects the weak;
While justice turns the other cheek.
As more illegal party crashers;
Join the lines of welfare cashers.

Spending taxes once supposed;
To build new schools and fix our roads.

I do applaud our loving cup;
But how long can we keep this up?
Our coffers can’t afford to mentor;
Every soul who begs us enter.

Lest we be a doormat nation;
We must halt mass immigration;
Outline freedom’s invitation.
No exceptions, no omissions;
No apology conditions.

Lady Liberty will weep;
for promises she cannot keep.
But repercussions we will feel;
To give our country time to heal;
Will never hurt our children more;
Than losing what we built her for.

Never more than the most poetic, but, yes, I will disagree. The US was built on immigration. Who had the most cause for Concern? The native Indians. We have the same problem in Europe: masses of people wishing to flee to Europe, and Britain is shameful in her response to the plight of these displaced people. Why do we find ourselves in such a state? I'll tell you why: we have engaged in a 21st century crusade to the shores of Islam, and paid no thought to the outcome. We have left desolation, and then with drawn. Now we have to pay the price. And just one more fact: the wealth of our'great' nations was built on the plundering of other nations and slavery. I just disagree. x

"I do applaud our loving cup;

I guess the Native Americans never even had the chance to ask this question, given we genocided them and plunked the remainder on chunks of land to live in poverty to this very day.

I adore your poetry, Red...truly do. But, I can't let this go. Sorry for that. (opinions and all that rot, eh?)

I'm weighing in again on this contentious piece. (A bit of contention is good for the constitution, but only in small amounts and only on worthy subjects!). I wrote this quite some time ago, and it's posted here, on page 9, I think. It adequately expresses my thoughts on this country and our current course.

What's Coming Down

Well before bombs blew hot as the sun,
Before germs were created to kill everyone,
Back before motors, with just sail and oars
A group of English arrived on a cold eastern shore.
With plows at the ready, they claimed their new land;
Ripping and tearing to the west from the sand.
Not really caring who stood in their path,
These lovers of freedom let loose their wrath.
Militant minded, with muskets to ‘fore
Natives died by the fire, diseases and more.
Like locust they swept from the Atlantic to west,
Wiping out cultures in their insatiable quest.
With the natives reduced to a pitiable few
The time came to look for conquests anew.
By the words of Monroe and divine right you see,
They now had their gaze fixed to the seas.
Three hundred years later, with the world in its palm
Rights are abolished with nary a qualm.
These states, long since united as one,
Now seek to place the world ‘neath their thumb.
Through fear and war beating and stripping of rights,
This once mighty nation will slip into the night,
And some day a thousand years hence,
Two Chinese will be sitting on some ancient fence.
“Do you remember reading about the US in school?”
“I do”, replied one, “but weren’t they the fools who
Tried to take over the whole world by force?”
“Yes”, he answered, “but they’re long gone, of course”.

Uh, patriotic or political? wink photo cid_03C8030E2C7C492BA509D7B6A42B528.gif

This is definitely a land of immigrants and for quite a while I was thinking those that don't want illegals here had some nerve considering how our ancestors "discovered" this land and took it from the Indians.

But I have changed my outlook on this because, for one, it's not just illegals coming from Mexico, there are terrorists coming through that border. That is unacceptable and something needs to be done. Yes, we took this land but the past is the past and we cannot live in it. I live in the now and we should be living in the now. Immigrants need to immigrate legally. Enough is enough.

*steps off soapbox*

*looks around*

Good, appears no one heard me.

Nice to see you making a statement and, again, smooth riding with no effort!! Good stuff goin' on.

Thanks,

Sir Tim

beautifully penned, full of raw truth, legal immigration is great
though the system suckers and those who wish us harm-
muslims- need to go back where they came from, as all western
countries we need to take care of our veterans and country
people first and foremost!

hugs n' love nessa
