Deep Vein Thrombosis,
(once the potential name of a really cool fusion jazz band for all it meant to me),
is now decidedly unmusical;
no movie plot, this clot;
nothing cool in the clinical chill of a cushioned slab,
politely angled to a flat screen
view of how my life might end.
“Yes, Doctor, DVT, uh huh...from groin to knee...yes, of course”;
a gentle handing off of phone to me.
“Do I have time to come get blood thinners?”
(What was your med school class rank, please?)
Do I have time to live?
Such silly questions asked when one's back is not against the pockmarked wall.

I'm assuming, and hoping I'm right, that the last line indicates that this is not from personal experience. Extremely hard-hitting and powerful in its wording and construction. This one's gonna stay with me today, for a number of reasons, not least its quality. |

The medical part of this really makes it cold, much in the sense of (Was it)Sarte(?) who mentioned the medical gaze(?).
To learn one's mortal is necessary, but to learn in it the fashion of being treated as a common-error is in itself dehumanizing, and certainly less than being a mortal human being. Such is the way of profits in an important field as medical treatment.
(P.s. If this is from your own experience, I hope you're well, and this isn't truly much of an issue as expressed.) |

Your poetic bent lends a buffer to the trial you are encountering, permitting you to shake hands with a devil of a reality.
You have stepped through youths portal:
"The Day I learned I'm Mortal" is a right of passage we all encounter in one form or another.
It will take the best of your courage to meet head-on the invisible enemy within. Do not allow yourself to delay--this is not practice, and it is far to early for us to be parted from your company.
