I Have to Wonder

I Have to Wonder

Abby is a fantastic child.
Every child is,
but Abby is my child.
When life gives her lemons,
she makes satisfyingly delicious lemonade.
When life gives her a four letter word that rhymes with hit,
she makes impeccable,
absolutely incomparable fertilizer.

I have to wonder
what she could have been
if she had been given
gold,
silver,
platinum
and diamonds.

So true, so true.

In (unsolicited) answer to your last stanza,

"I have to wonder
what she could have been
if she had been given
gold,
silver,
platinum
and diamonds."

She 'could' have been, or become a person that rhymes with hit. Count your blessings you had no diamonds to take the sparkle from her soul.

A thoughtful and cerebral expose'....much enjoyed.

Invierno

Love for, and the mental nourishment of, our children carries no dollar sign, as you so eloquently and poetically express. I have a deep affinity with children; I went to school with them. Money may buy you the best education, but it can't make you a better person.

Something I like though, is that even if our children possess traits that are not necessarily unique, like ignorance for instance, which causes them to do something odd or say something silly, it's delightful and we relish that as incredible, but it is. It's a window at a past we cannot see, faded by discolorongs of dust that have stained the view of the past, but this one instance, the view has a bit more shape to it.

To see our children be resilient, joyous, creative, loving, and any other thing we try to be or want to be, has to be in itself one of the greatest rewards of parenthood, as you get to see your child become something and someone great, sturdy, and by which influential.

But I will agree with Invierno, neither should one wan that for their children, nor should they try to give them those things, as those things and desires are simply not natural.

Good write, especially for the length. :)
