A Word On Love

“Don't forget bananas! Love you!”;
an inside smirk.
Cheery though, “Love you too!” surfed back to the banana lover
on invisible waves.
Oh, this day, these days;
'Love' is thrown in with produce when
“Bye!” would more than do as truth.
“Becka? It's me, Jeannie! Last night from the bar?
You are? No, I'm not far. See you soon...
love you!”
“Love you too!”
Becka sets the phone down, “Jeannie who?”
Love; the word...
upon a time reserved
for tenderness, the intimate,
the private and special,
the ultimate of soul to soul;
earned,
not tossed about with bananas
and names just last night learned.
Do as I...it's okay;
today, anytime to not say you love when you don't;
try saying 'Bye” and maybe they won't
hurl back to you the insult of the lie.
The fear of busting the balloon on honesty,
in the end,
leads to gloom and empty rooms
because “I love you”,
tossed on the wind and wires freely as breath
becomes a lustreless ring;
In time, all “I love You- love you too!”
are rendered cheap and old, grooves
soon show it,
then, discarding all as trite and false
someday it may be real gold
but you won't know it.

Less substance in speech I guess. Well penned and I enjoyed reading and this is a pet peeve of mine. It's like.asking someone how are you and being half way past him before they get a chance to reply. Empty gestures. Anyway. Excellent poem another keeper if you decide to publish |

The old ninety two year old women whom I knew,
she's dying I knew, I love you, last words she told me.
She's gone, she never complained, never had anyone
to talk about the end with
we think love, in our heart and within our inner soul
love, love is all there is
one must come to understand
this cosmic realm
Oh I know Invierno
all these uses of love in the inertia
In this voice of yours so pure
the innuendo blur
Thanks man !
I think of this a lot
having two teenagers at home
and parents who have passed away
and a lovely lady
I know who just only
thought of others on her way out
Peace! |

There are probably some people that say it out of habit to the spouse just to avoid a fight.
I could see it...just go with bye and when the hubby gets home (or maybe even he didn't have a chance to leave)and gets "You didn't say I love you, too!" Zoink to the side of the skull with a frying pan. ;-)
Definitely a poem that gets the thoughts stirring.
Thanks,
Tim |

What a gift you have for unearthing what we all know but never speak of! The word Love has become a handshake, a wave, a sign off, a swift good-by! More of an assurance than a commitment!
It is too late to redeem it. We must find another word for the "intimate, private, and special, ultimate of soul to soul" message we wish to impart.
Words like "hate" are also suffering from "the insult of the lie". We are losing nuances of meaning and shades of definition. It is faster to speak in black and white, than to custom mix our meaning in the vivid colors at our disposal. (perhaps the artist's palate and the speaker's palate have more in common that their name!)
We have thrown "Love" away--what shall we call this tender devotion--this promise we must keep?
You raise a good question!

I like this for oh so many reasons. This reminded me of a song I wrote a few years ago:
'You want to know what’s eating me
You say we’re friends but we rarely meet
If I wanted to be alone
I could do that on my own
We talk about how we’re family
It’s something that I rarely see
If I’m going to be alone
I will find friends of my own'
I have strong opinions about this too just like you. Your poem is poignant in its application.
