Time Is Passing Me By

Contributed by JamesStockdale on Saturday, 8th August 2015 @ 09:22:53 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

With a tear in my eye
My time here
Is passing me by
All of those I once loved
Are now so old or have already said goodbye
The days of old
With family galore
Are now gone and no more
I wish my parents could live forever
For without them the sun will no longer shine
Life would be not so divine
Empty and void
Like time gone by
It makes me so sad
Time has passed all of us by
So fast indeed, it makes me want to cry
My heart is heavy for what is to come
I hope and pray I can weather the storm
For life without those you love
Is worse than never being born

No more than five minutes ago I was saying, "It sucks to get old."

My immediate family, dad, mom, sis & bro, all said "good-bye". I'm the only one left out of that branch of the family tree, I guess you could say but we just gotta keep trekking. I try not to think about it anymore but, yeah, if you do, it can get to you.

Life does seem to go by too fast!

A very emotional read for me. Thank you for posting and keepa writin'!

Tim

So true...my wife has a hell storm of grief coming her way. I already hurt for her.

This is touching.

Thanks,

Mike

This is a wonderful poem sir,
One that reminds me of another I recently read, one I absolutely could never forget.
Here you go..

Heaven Is a Heavy House: Axe, Drawknife, Auger, Crosscut Saw, by James Galvin

You fell the trees,
You limb them, peel them,
And skid them out.
You raise a heavy house
With heavy rooms,
A heavy loft.

A heavy wet snow
Falls in May,
Snows you in
For five days.

That snow makes new grass heavy,
And heavy with flowers.
There is a heaven
And you are alone in it—
Not even a voice
To talk to yourself in—

Just swerving memories
Of hope and fear
So lethally ephemeral—
A girl playing guitar
And horses in the yard.
You wait for the horse

That comes to your gate
With a bullet hole in his forehead.
He doesn’t want anything.
He stares at you,
Then wheels and gallops away,
Leaving you

In the heavy house
You made from life.
A heavy wet snow.
It’s like the floor of the sky
Fell out.

I'm the youngest kid of ten and both my parents are dead. I always knew the old and always felt like the kid.
Time is passing me by as well
This is always something I did dread.
But which way to go
Which ever way will I know

I read this poem by James Galvin just this morning in the New Yorker

Your poem echoed its words in my thoughts
which are truly the things we poets could ever hope to
achieve.

Thank you, friend!

Peace!

I need to say, I'm sorry for not correctly putting in the quotation on the words of the poem by James Glavin,

The ending of his poem is,

"In the heavy house
You made from life
A heavy wet snow.
It's like the floor of the sky
Fell out."

The rest was my comment.

Sorry for the screwup!
MM

James: You have spoken for so many here today. The advantage of being the youngest is having the guidance of elders; the disadvantage is that we are left standing alone. I too was the youngest.
I miss my family every moment. (I still ask myself, what would they do? Still depend on all they taught me. Still hope they are proud of me.)
I'm certain our elders anguish terribly about leaving the young ones behind. How could they not?
Standing alone to "weather the storm" is my gift to their memory. They did a good job trying to prepare me, and carrying on "for what is to come" is the only way I know to honor everything that they sacrificed for me.
I miss them; I loved them; and I can't find it in my heart to fail them.
Thank you for your courage in writing this--You have helped me to keep my promise for another day.

Bring on the rainbow n I sink n float but won't drown
Light that makes lite n new life that can fight
Through any stormy night n strife

Yes, indeed, time has no favourites, and it is the greatest thief. But something it finds difficult to steal: our memories. The world and its brother will relate to your words. Well expressed, thank you.
