North on 35

Contributed by Beyfoxman5 on Saturday, 11th July 2015 @ 04:19:32 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Headed North on the drive as I approach the 35
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles
I've been on the up and on the down, I've been all around
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles

A year and 9 in the northeast trying to tame winter's beast
And only 5 days in my summer's bed
Oh the stories that can be told
In this two door wheels tread

From Amarrillo to Winnepeg
Sleeping on egg crates, but nowhere to put my head
A twenty four hour cruise
So much time for Jason, Jimmy, Hank, and the blues

Headed North on the drive as I approach the 35
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles
I've been on the up and on the down, I've been all around
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles

I've gotten checks from UPS and Williams Ski and Patio
But for all their dollars they don't know
April 1 rolls around and I get itchin
To get back on the road

From first place to last
The miles come and they pass
But I give thanks overall
To that little white ball

Headed North on the drive as I approach the 35
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles
I've been on the up and on the down, I've been all around
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles

From Mississippi to the Great Lakes, to the border of Laredo
From feet on snow to the land of Lemurs
And that toothless bartender at the Royal
You can bet your ass I've seen her

Headed North on the drive as I approach the 35
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles
I've been on the up and on the down, I've been all around
I tell you it's not the age it's the miles

This was well written - sounds like it was describing the life of a truck driver. It almost reads like song lyrics - very bouncy ones.

Great write.

Truck name prime all the time no end to in your prime no age with out time. Toothless acting white teen teeth on this stage at the royal theatre are toothless as they bite down hard into the truth with teeth of a poem about a toothbrush. To see a world in a grain of sand and eterity in a wild flower. Sylvia plath gas chamber with no shower. Love re reading your poem after such a long time . Time catches up with us in no time at all.
