I Killed A Man

Contributed by JamesStockdale on Monday, 6th July 2015 @ 12:58:06 PM in AEST
Topic: war

I killed a man
In Vietnam
Wasn't for me
But Uncle Sam

I watched him die
With blood on my hands
I really didn't hate him
Nor was I a fan

Now that I'm back home
I often think of him
Surmise what could have been
Looking back it all seems rather dim

In war if you are to survive
You must commit all kinds of sin
Keep your emotions tightly sealed
So you may walk away in the end

All of this comes
With a heavy price to pay
All of its horror
Haunts you every single day

This is sad. I hope I never have to say I killed a man or woman.

They wouldn't take me in the service because of my eyes, otherwise (had I survived) I may have written a similar poem.

Great stuff and sorry you have to go through this.

Tim

Thank You For Your Service. I was in the Marines for 5 yrs although I never saw combat. I can only imagine what you have been going through all these years. You did a very good job at putting this into words. Thank you for sharing.

Good job. I love the provocative title to set the tone. I can only imagine the struggles/horrors you have faced, and no doubt continue to. Thanks for sharing.

Very well written. It remains true to the T what veterans or those who come back from war go through. Even ordinary people who have done the unthinkable, I can relate to this so much.
Thank you,
Stay strong
