Abject Apology

Contributed by wrybod on Wednesday, 28th May 2003 @ 04:35:00 AM in AEST
Topic: ApologyPoetry

I've been taken to task (privately)
by two charming young ladies I've "bitten"
by making snide and nasty remarks
on recent poems they've written.

Their arguments and sincerity
have led me to question mine
and admit they're right and I am wrong
please allow me to define

They write so beautifully about young life
their love, their joy and sorrow
their rich and deep emotions
so gripped....... there's no tomorrow

Why could I not just realise
all this was truly theirs'
The reasons that I must admit
were jealousy and fears

Too old to pen the passion
with an intellect that shines
Younger souls and better poets
writing better lines

i know not what you apologize for
but it seems you have opened a door
apology you feel must be given
for each poet is separately driven

but, remember dear friend
not to forget
your lines in your poems
are as good as they get...

blessings...

Dear wrybod ... If only you would read your PMs - it is soooo frustrating! LOL .... there is one sitting in my outbox waiting for you to read ... I don't believe you should come to this conclusion ... I have always enjoyed reading your poetry and think you have an amazing talent for humorous, slightly cynical poetry - my favourite is still the Seagull one ... I have also written a poem for you which should be posted very soon ... I was a little hurt, at first, I admit with some of your comments, but I also believe you were right in a way about some of my poetry - and believe it can only improve me, not hinder - and after all that's what comments are all about - improving our poetry ... so thank you, Jan

It's all about odd comments
on poems from which I've shied
about love and soul and heartbreak
lost partners......suicide

It's just that once or twice I've felt
the emotion was overstated
artifically lurid
sort of "chromium plated"

But listening to their arguments
I had to admit defeat
What they wrote was genuine
but from me it would be deceit

I simply cannot make it
to their level of expression
in my youth we called it "soppy"
it puts me in regression.

It's just one specific area
that I find myself concealing
and I musn't take it out on
those who like revealing

Jan, you're too kind but you are right , somethng good has come out of all of it.

It's only in one specific situation that I feel I owe you an apology (as different from right across the board). I've covered it in an exchange with Michele on the apology comments.

Alls well that ends well

Bob

There was such an age gap , in my case it practically ammounts to comming from a different culture.

I really didn't appreciate how emotionally
expressive many younger people are today.

In the 30's and 40's people kept things much mor "bottled up"

but when you write your feeling down it becomes a fact.

So one doesn't apologise for the feeling but for the fact that one expressed it in such a way that it gave offence.
And when one thinks about it, just as you say
"all write from their heart, mind, experiences....." not as I implied occaisionally for the "applause"
Both poets convinced me, as you have, that their compositions were honest expressions of their feelings
and for suggesting otherwise I felt I must apologise

Good apology. It is always sincere, I feel, when the writer takes the time to apologize in a poem; thought with deepest regret.

The whole affair, I am beginning to feel, has had a good effect on YPDC. Well certainly on me anyway.

I actually like your less melodramatic poems. And I'm not old (early 20s). Or is that old?

"Old" is a comparative term. It's meaning has to be drawn from the context. I would conceed you are not old, but discerning beyond your years.

I had to apologise for questioning their integrity.

Such a nice way to apologize. It shows your good understanding to others' mind and deep sincereity to them. Also, like your other poems, it's a very well written one!

I'm nearer eighty now than seventy five so I'm looking back down the road so many other poets are just starting out on.
Sometimes I get a bit short tempered and intolerant.
Thank you for your kind words. I must go straight and read some of yours.

I do not know what you apologize for but your words in this poem clearly come from within. Apologizing is for me- personally one of the hardest actions to take. But this poem was pure in-genius. I wish you my luck and hopefully the best for all of you.

The apology was for questioning the integrity of what they wrote.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I had origionally only intended for the apology to appear for just a few days.
