she's so young, only just turned sixteen
still she knows the world can be so mean
grew up in a family that always lacked wealth
because they needed to pay for her fathers health
her classmates words weigh her down like boulders
she's trying to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders
Why doesn't she see that she has got it all wrong
you don't always have to try to be the one who stays strong
You don't know what the top looks like until you see the bottom
you're supposed to lean on your friends that's why you've got them
so stop trying to be everyone's guardian angel and put down your halo
because it's alright if you don't feel like you can put on that candescent smile
Just rest for a while and know that we'll be with you all the while

I really like this poem.
Takes me back to the Benny Mardones era.
Splendid work. |
