Curtain Call

How did you get to where you stand;
Were you coaxed or pulled or pushed?
Did you arrive by your own hand;
Or was your life ambushed?
Predestined by a lover?
By family tradition?
The footsteps of a brother;
A relative’s ambition?
Perhaps you had to get away;
So learned life’s lessons faster!
Or got a late start on your way;
To being your own master!
There comes a time we understand
The power that we own;
That moment when we take command;
And find ourselves alone.
We face our own unveiling;
And all we’ll never be;
Shake hands with all our failings
Content to let them be.
No matter how we started
Or how much we have won;
Too swiftly we’re departed;
With so much love undone!
We’re born alone; We die alone;
And all we have is NOW.
To give away the love we own;
And exit with a bow.

Now this is truly inspirational: enjoying the journey, no matter how it ends or begins. For if we don't, we'll miss out on all the benefits that come with this gift called life. A great read and I look forward to seeing more of your work,
Deidra |

Excellent poem. I really enjoyed it. Consistently good and poignant. I wish there was a feature to add poems you like to a favourites list so you could have an anthology of your own; this would definitely be in mine. |

Nicely, done. A mature sentiment well said.
