The Unforgettable Fray

Contributed by CARAAAAA on Tuesday, 12th May 2015 @ 08:42:53 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

I put on my favourite shirt
to the best of my ability
fastidiously pleated
over frowning wrinkles
and brown grimacing stains
I put on my favourite shirt,
slipped it over
my mussed, tousled head
concealing bristling nerves
all frazzled
electrified
a million watts over
high voltage anxiety
I put on my favourite shirt,
then I danced
into the madding, gladdening fray
In I glided
like a brittle leaf
getting caught in a carefree wind
a shriveled up leaf
given a new lease of life
a drunkard on his second wind
I let out the most feeble, insignificant squeal
its tenuous pitch striking keys
into the great, quivering instrument of the dark
intermittently lit up
by flashes of light
from black to bright
I catch two gazes - one's adoring another appalling
from night to neon flight
hovering precariously
my shouts exploded like a fiesta of fireworks
into the rowdy night
I twirled, I turned, I pirouetted, I slid
cloth snagged
my favourite shirt frayed
unravelling
so beautifully
as I pranced, I spun,
like a whirling dervish
devoutly debauched
I fell, got scraped
something seared
but in that moment,
not an iota of fear
I watched the sky turn paler
losing its lustrous ebony sheen
smudging out
the brilliant sparks
that so marvelously and wickedly gleamed
And so the sky turned
ebony to blinding ivory
like a lady, pursed lips, applying a layer of foundation
over the transgressions of the night
sins for the abashed
delights for the glistening, preening players
Under that sage, exacting glow
of that fiery ball orb of sun,
I see my favourite shirt
had come gloriously undone
I pull my favourite shirt
over my splotchy, bruised back
over my chafed tarnished elbows
over my lank, dank hair
There are holes to be patched over
threads to stitch together
In the morning light
filtered soft and gentle through sheer curtains
I see my favourite shirt
lying sweat-sodden
in a crumpled pile
Bit by bit,
I'm sure I'll mend it back
into an acceptable
almost respectable state
but for now
I'll wriggle under the covers
bare
drifting
a lost, unfocused spark
For now
all i want
is to rejoin
the marvel that is the fray.

Heh, pretty cool.
