The Day I Desired Desire Leave Me Be

The day I flung desire down
sank stone-like into green,
endless carpet past horizon''s care,
water splashing inside out.
I, still dry inside of me,
safe so still, my epiphany,
discovering (Didn''t I already know?)
nothings'' as it seems-
the day I abandoned hope hope sang
clanging down my throat,
when God who matters
(over loved ones here, matters most?),
I asked the grass for answers then-
“Speak back, my million friends!”,
when strings were cut binding me,
releasing freely me to air,
my guitar I played and loved so dear
I smashed just because of that-
a crack of wood to please my ears,
giving song a different note,
yet not a note at all,
tuning past the silent stare,
music tuneless alien uncared,
guitar enslaved, tamed piece of wood,
one string plus five, arranged, factory-like
I daren''t look or read these words
afraid the music flee it might,
treasuring my sweet release
to destroy loved objects as I please,
desire nilly-willy from my soul,
lighter now
all I left or wrecked
in shards and splinters more profound,
new feelings born because I cared to much,
a box of wood, six strings just so-
the day I bid desire go, releasing flow
sinking stone-like in the grass-
smiles all around me now
I for them and they for me,
a million grinning leaves of grass
I swam in them and they in me,
grasping long as I could last,
new desire gripping choking,
“Not again!” way to fast,
prolonging moments end-
“Oh, desire, why why grip me so?
Now it's inside for me”.
I left that moment cherished bare,
but gently now,
softer now,
this moment tasty fare.
fading now this field of green
ceasing fleeing fast
because I wasn''t there.

Swimming in a sea of blades of grass! I can imagine each with a face, all identical..rows of soldiers bowing to the wind's melody. There is much in our miniature universe unexplored that bears grace and offers up welcome. You have crafted a swift story of a wishful wayfarer and laid it before us like a path wondering off into infinity. I'm so glad you didn't have to smash your guitar for inspiration. I saw a lovely Gibson stepped upon in an airport, ant trust me…guitars cry. I carried mine more carefully after that. softerware |
