Who cares about statistics
We're optimistic misfits
Living in this world of the dead
You see us as sadistic
Twisted devils rejects
Not giving in to God to regret
If you can wear your crucifixes
I can bare my triple sixes
And hold them high above my head
I see religion as infectious
Believers are pretentious
Brainwashed by the book they've read

And everyone comes out into the street with a sign saying "hooray for our side!". There are rituals and symbols on both sides of your coin. Attitudes are infectious, too! Odd how we have to pick a side to be on, isn't it?
No matter what side we choose, both have pretentions, make no mistake. Thank you for reminding me that there is a place for all of us in this world, and we are still able to choose it for ourselves, but most of all, thank you for a swift reality check…no matter where we stand, or in how great a number, there is room for disagreement, and an equal space for tolerance, curiosity, grace, and humor. Your poem will not age; but you will.
Your thoughts will bear your life's experiences as does this poem. Keep them in a book, in a drawer, and in 50 years, read them again. You will see how far your talent has brought you!

I expected more. I guess if there were no side to choose there would be no life. Well done reminding me of that. |
