“Oh, you monstrous walls of green,
chlorophylic rampart blades!”-
holding firm against the turns
of those so small a blade a wall.
Stumped and numbed 'neath bastions green
so grand 'ere ne'er 'fore conceived;
with eyes the size of needle tips,
one foot a day of land;
so tiny fear descends
at sight of mighty ants.
Above, (and just), romp bigger beasts that
feast on those very same green walls;
“Oh, grassy blades, so sweet the taste!”
chomping hard and fast on all.
Whilst hopping grass to blade and back,
'ere bird's beak (by stealth and sneak),
hopper, feaster, now the feast
to a hungry Cardinal's gulp.
Bluebird, Redbird, Yellow too;
cavorting free in sunny blue,
then swoops in air from who knows where;
a falcon's talons piercing deep,
granting aught to life now lost
no fear no time to weep;
“Hatchling's breakfast! Oh, so sweet!”,
momma off to quell new bellies un ceasing
chirped demand-
sore to feed and more to soar,
when from the ground roars a sound;
killer/mother struck of buck
dead drop to earthen floor.
The fall a wall of pounding flesh,
“Dilemma solved!” Synaptic joy!
Our tiny crawler needle-eyed, beady
on this feast;
A wall of green replaced (“Whoa!!!”)
with a mountain feathered treat.
One mere inch an hour away,
(so close it can almost taste)
but comes long hairy arm of coarse guffaw n' grate;
“Damn Clem, gander on them durn big claws!”
as the meals' swept away.
Cycles run in circle's death,
from decay comes life and new formed breath;
when one takes one also gives;
life ends, begins as death lives.
