the colonel

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

in the hospital room as I held your hand and prayed
I felt god's presence and hoped you and your leg would be saved.

since I was a little girl, for me you were always there
to love me and protect me, and show how much you care.

as a colonel in the airforce, you served your country true
as a father and a husband you loved your family too.

dad you are so patient, wise and strong
if only I heeded half your advice, my life would have not gone wrong.

you have never given up on me, always on my side
I'm here for you now and always, along for the bumpy ride.

I know the fights not over, but your in his loving arms
he will guide and protect you from any impending harm.

there are some more obstacles to overcome,
but with the love of god and your family the battles already won.

God please protect my dad, guard his soul and heart
cause deep down inside, part of me is falling apart.

dad I love you

Carry that torch of love, burning ever strongly, brightly, illuminating the world with your father's bright wisdom and legacy in the world, both of which, shine out from you. :)
