The Used Car

The Used Car

A used car sitting on a lot,
Just seemed to catch my eye.
For reasons that I'll never know,
I could not pass it by.

For I could see that luxury,
Had been it's claim to fame.
Although the years had not been kind,
It had a noble name.

I just had to look it over,
And dream a tiny bit,
About the days when it was new,
And did so proudly sit.

As I sat in the drivers seat,
My eyes took in the view.
An anxious salesman came along,
And told me all he knew.

He said, “that car sure does look good,
With you behind the wheel.
Just make me any offer now,
And I'll give you a deal.

Now it has been a ladies car,
Who never drove it hard.
In fact it spent most of it's life,
Just sitting in the yard.

Now start it up and listen to,
The engine softly purr.
The miles are high but that just means,
That it's broke in for sure.

The blue smoke coming from the back,
Will quickly go away.
The piston rings will soon re-seat,
When driven for a day.

That squealing sound is just a belt,
Quite easy to replace.
With just a little tune up, you,
Could drive it in a race.

It's had a minor accident,
Which has been well restored,
That's why some parts are Oldsmobile,
While the rest of them are Ford.

One fender's red the door is blue.
The windshield has a crack.
The grill is missing from the front.
There's lots of room in back.

Yes, the trunk lock is broken out.
I think they lost the key.
A bungee cord now holds it shut,
And that works perfectly.

The tires all have different tread,
But you don't need to care,
Because it comes with one good jack,
And tire that's still got air.

It's like I said, the price is low.
This car is right for you.
A little touch up here and there,
Will make it look like new.”

I said, “congratulations man,
You've sold me on this deal.
I almost hate to buy it now,
I just don't like to steal.”

He said, “Come in, we'll write it up.”
I said, “Just hold that thought,
I'll run down to the local bank,
And see how much I've got.”

I just hope that while he's waiting,
He does not hold his breath.
Just thinking of the deal I'll miss,
Scares me most half to death.

Damn funny! Oddly, I just bought a used car today that I feared would not make it back to my house. OR, I WOULD make it back, but in a body bag!

Funny and well written!

I am on the floor…this sneaks up on the reader and builds to one visual after another! The ending is classic! A sigh of relief!
Marvelous fun and just teetering on the edge of complete believability. Nice meter and reads very quickly….sadly…
over way too soon! :)
