The Message
My dear friend, I am writing just in part to let you know,
I can't repay the money which I borrowed long ago.
I am just sending you this message to ask you if I can,
Do you think that you'd have room to include me in your plan?
For a rumor has you leaving to winter in the South.
Of course it's just a rumor and it was not word of mouth,
But just in case your planning a winter time vacation,
I am sending you this letter for full consideration.
Now I'm not the kind of person to go and tag along,
Or try to fit into a plan where I just don't belong.
Yet if you see the way clear to include me in your plan,
You know that you'd be making me a very happy man.
I would certainly be happy to help in any way,
With our departure schedule when we leave here on that day.
I don't have any money for I spent it long ago,
But I wouldn't let that stop me I'll be very glad to go.
I don't need to travel first class but if you want me to,
I will drop my modest act and just go along with you.
We can live the kind of lifestyle some folk never know,
And on this traveling journey there is no place we can't go.
I could sure enjoy the pleasure of going on a spree,
Especially with a credit card that you could give to me.
When staying at the finest inn and laying on the beach,
No luxury in this world my friend, would be beyond our reach.
The days would just fly by so fast that we could soon lose track.
It would not bother me one bit there's no hurry to get back.
When I think of all the countries my eyes have never seen,
It makes me so excited to just tell you what I mean.
Why we could set a record to sweep this mighty nation,
As the greatest of high rollers going on vacation.
When many years have come and gone and you are old and grey.
The visions of the fun we had will come back bright as day.
You never will forget the time that you took me along.
When other thoughts in life grow dim those memories will stay strong.
As I await your welcome call inviting me to go,
I only long to get away before it starts to snow.

I am liking your style the more I read! This is an excellent commentary on the absurd sense of entitlement we see in others from time to time.
I love how you keep coming back and finding more and more reasons to tag along (although you don't do that!)..Splendid, funny, clever, and as easy to read as sitting in a rocking chair!
DO KEEP WRITING! You're on my favorites list.

I like how you maintain such a smooth flow in all your writings, and rhyme each pair of lines without making it sound cheesey or forced. I feel I lack that ability especially sometimes. Even if the story for whatever reason in a poem you write would not be enjoyable, the writing itself would be smooth and tasty like a nice relaxing glass of sweetened lemonade. :) |
