cowboy

she does not know him but he feels so very near.
emerging from the shadows upon his giant steed
in the air there lingers wonder, excitement even fear.

an outlaw and a gentleman, a cowboy all the way.
rustic hat, worn boots, a red bandanna round his neck.
riding in slow motion to rescue her, to save the day.

his eyes kind but piercing, never once to shed a tear,
his jawline bold and strong, rugged and chiseled is his nose
his skin tan and rough from the heat of the sun thru all the years.

as dusk falls across the prairie he sits by the campfire content to be alone.
a shooting star fires across the summer sky to find a wish to answer true
but this cowboy has all he needs on the range he knows as home.

the quiet beauty of the land allow his thoughts to gently drift
to a beautiful fair lady with eyes of the bluest sea
an angel waiting for him to hold with true love, her only gift.

the fire's embers dwindle, fading into the canopy of stars so bright
his tired eyes close and her's do as well
two souls all alone, there will be no rescuing this night.

Hi, Wow! your poem is definitely one of my favorites on this site. I love the way it all comes together at the end. Guess I was so caught up in reading that I said to myself, "Been there. Done that".

I could hear the campfire crackling! What wonderful images this has to offer!
A dense and compact tale from start to finish. No wasted words. Nicely crafted and a gift to the reader.
Can't wait until you read another book!
